How October has gone so far
The season opened on the road at Vegas on Friday, Oct. 2. Two days later the Ducks played their home opener against Florida. According to the NHL.com/Ducks recap, Mikael Granlund scored the winner on a power play with 46 seconds left in overtime, off a pass from Leo Carlsson. Cutter Gauthier had two power-play goals and an assist, Carlsson finished with three assists and Lukas Dostal made 29 saves. NHL.com says the win was Anaheim's 11th straight in home openers, which extends the team record.
The second home game went the other way. Edmonton scored all five of its goals in the second period, and Beckett Sennecke scored both Anaheim goals on first-period power plays. That left the Ducks at 2-1-0 (NHL.com).
The Ducks then played road games at Winnipeg on Oct. 9 and at Calgary on Oct. 10. They won the Calgary game 4-2 on a short-handed winner from Ryan Poehling, which put them at 4-1-0 and dropped the Flames to 0-5-0 (NHL.com).
Tonight: the Calgary rematch
The Oct. 10 game in Calgary was the first half of a home-and-home series, and the second half is at Honda Center tonight (CBS Los Angeles). Calgary came into this week without a win. Puck drop is 6:45 p.m., and the Wild Wing mask giveaway covers the whole arena, so you don't need to arrive early to get one (Ducks promotional schedule).
Picking a night for the rest of the month
Boston, Friday, Oct. 16. This is the only remaining October home game on a Friday or weekend, which helps if a school night or work night is a problem.
Vancouver, Tuesday, Oct. 27. This game has the most going on: the Native American Heritage hat for the first 10,000 fans and the Los Patos Merch Drop. The Honda Center event page confirms the 7 p.m. start.
Buffalo, Thursday, Oct. 29. This is the last home game of the month. The official promotional schedule lists no giveaway.
The mid-month gap
After the Boston game, the Ducks go on a four-game road trip in the East: the Rangers on Oct. 19, the Islanders on Oct. 20, New Jersey on Oct. 22 and Philadelphia on Oct. 24 (official schedule grid). That means there are no Ducks home games at Honda Center from Oct. 17 through Oct. 26. If you want to see a game before Halloween week, your choices are tonight and Friday.
